Raising the Bar for Green Building, Sustainability and Healthy Living

The first home and guest house at The Cliffs at Padre Springs is now well under construction.  It will be one of the “healthiest, non-toxic homes” ever built in the United States.  There has been tremendous mindfulness and research done on every product that has gone into the construction of this home.  The owner has required a MSDS sheet (material safety data sheet) on every product that has ever been introduced into the home.  As a result, there are no toxic materials even allowed on the building site.

The wall structures are made from an organic compressed block of recycled wood chips and concrete with an extremely high energy efficiency.  The home is heated and cooled with Geo-Thermal technology.  There are six 200 feet deep holes drilled by a well drilling company, under the home that captures the earth’s year round temperature of approximately 54-55 degrees.  This cool air is used for cooling the home in the summer months and is converted to heat in the winter as it is transferred through a heat pump and exchanger.  The monthly utilities bills are anticipated to be about $20 per month.  The rain water is harvested from the roof for the landscaping.  The home has a state of the art indoor air purification system and water purification and water structuring system.  The home will easily achieved the Build Green New Mexico’s highest rating at the Gold level.  The point system takes into account numerous factors that all add up to energy efficiency, and sustainable building practices.  Stay tuned for updates on this beautiful home, situated on 20 acres, with stunning views.  It is scheduled for completion in early summer 2009.

As stewards of this beautiful property, which has graciously endured so much history, it is our very strong intention to preserve this    land and all of it’s natural beauty.  It is with this in mind that we have set aside over 95% of the 1221 total acres as designated open space, which will never be developed.  The homes that will be constructed here, shall become a model for what is possible in green and sustainable, healthy, non-toxic homes.  Our covenants and design guidelines demonstrate our commitment to a new standard of green development by raising the bar to the highest green building standards ever implemented for a community in New Mexico and perhaps in the Southwest.
